What are the requirements for hiring our vans?
Aged between 25 and 75 ( 23-25 is to be requested )
Have held a full UK or EU driving licence for a minimum of 2 years
Have not had their licence suspended for any period within the last 3 years
Have not been involved in more than one fault incident within the last 3 years
Have no more than 2 convictions with a maximum of 3 points per conviction.
How old do you have to be to hire a van?
25 - 75 Years old.
( 23-25 can be considered but a higher security deposit of £750 will apply )
How many drivers can there be?
3 Maximum. Extra drivers can be added for only £35

Can we take the vans overseas?
Currently we do not allow overseas trips to Europe.
However we do allow Ferry trips to Ireland and Scottish Isles.
Our girls love island hopping!
What time is collection and drop off?
Collection 3.00pm - 4.00pm
Drop Off 10.00 - 10.30am
This allows us time to get the camper ready for the next guests. However you can request an early or late drop off.
As we have 6 vans we need to stagger collection and Drop Off times. We will confirm your slot between these times.
Please allow 30 Minutes.
Where can we leave our car?
Your car will be parked FOC on a private premises. Please note, the car and contents are left at the owners risk. We do however, have CCTV in full working order.
We will arrange all drop offs and pick ups at an agreed designated time.
You will have the option of leaving the keys securely with us or you can keep hold of them.
We now operate an out of hours key collection and Drop Off with prior arrangement. Please note if we authorise this then inspection of the vehicle will take place within 48 hours of drop off.
Can we smoke in the vans?
Absolutely not. We reserve the right to deduct a cleaning charge from your security deposit if anyone smokes in the van.
We also ask that you ensure the van door and windows are closed if using a fire pit. Please also ensure the fire pit is away from the van.

Are we responsible for any speeding fines or parking tickets?
Yes. When you book with Lakes Escape Campers you are agreeing to our terms and conditions. We will forward your personal details to a third party on both occasions and reserve the right to withhold any funds or invoice you directly.
What do we expect from Lakes Escape Campers?
We are responsible for
Maintaining the vehicle to a high standard and ensuring to the best of our ability that the vehicle is roadworthy and ready to rent at the start of the agreed hire period
We will show to use the vehicle safely and responsibly prior to departure
Ensuring the vehicle is fully insured
Provide breakdown cover
Is there a limit on how far we can go?
Presently we are offering our van with unlimited mileage.
It is recommended that you rest the van after 200 miles.
Do we return the vans with a full tank?
Yes. We will ensure that there is a full tank when you collect the vans. It must be returned with a full tank of Diesel. The nearest Petrol Station is Morrisons Kendal and Sainsburys Kendal.
If for any reason it is not returned with a full tank, you will be charged a full tank plus a charge for us to do this as per our terms.
I have points on my licence, can I still hire a van?
That depends on the nature of the endorsement. Maximum of two 3 point speeding fines/other minor offences in the last five years and have had no more than one minor accident in three years. Anything else cannot be covered by insurance and therefore the hire cannot proceed.
How much is it to book?
Only £200 to secure your booking if you book outside of 6 weeks. Full payment is required if your rental date falls inside of this period. This is a non refundable deposit.
Why do you need £500 security deposit?
This is standard with lots of hire companies and is the excess amount of our insurance policy. Provided the van is returned in the same condition, with a full tank of diesel it will be refunded within 7 working days. You will be asked to sign a vehicle report and advised to take a video of the condition of the vehicle when collecting. Any damage will be marked on the collection sheet. When dropping off an initial inspection will take place and then once the exterior is cleaned we will inform you within 24 hours of any damage and the report signed off. We advise all parties to be present when demonstrations are taking place.
We require the £500 before your departure date paid by BACS transfer. A paypal transfer will be accepted but there will be a 3.5% charge. This will be refunded to a Bank of your choice. This choice will allow you to use a credit card. This will be held and fully refunded if the van is returned in the same condition it was collected. If you are aged 23-25 and authorised to drive then this will increase to £750.

Is insurance included?
Comprehensive motor insurance is included in the basic price, for your and our peace of mind. If you are unfortunate enough to be in an accident, you’ll have to pay the policy excess up to £500 UK.

What happens if we breakdown?
Breakdown cover is included in the rental. The cover provided is Roadside, Recovery, At Home, Onward Travel & Roadside Assistance. An emergency number will be provided in your info pack. We also need to know of any problems. In the unlikely event the van cannot be repaired we will refund the remainder of your hire period.
What happens if we have an accident?
In the event of an accident, the customer must
Notify Lakes Escape Campers as soon as possible.
Obtain the names and addresses of any third parties and witnesses
Note the registration number, insurance details of any third party
Take photographs of any relevant evidence where possible
Make no admission of liability or offer settlement payments to other parties
Assist Lakes Escape Campers in handling any arising claim
Agree to indemnify Lakes Escape Campers if any third party suffers death, personal injury or damage to property caused by use of the vehicle that involves a breach by any driver, of any of the terms and conditions of this agreement, or the terms of Lakes Escape Campers insurance policy
What if we run out of gas?
In the unlikely event that you do have to pay to swap a bottle over, please keep your receipt and we will gladly refund the cost on your return.
Please note that we always test the gas but due to the weight of the bottle we are not 100% sure how much gas is in the bottle when picking the vehicle up.
Are you flexible with dates?
We will do our best to tailor make your rental to your needs. We offer a 3 night weekend stay, 4 night mid week stay and a 7 night stay. If you wish to take the van longer or for 10/11/14 night durations please contact us to discuss.
Subject to availability we can arrange an early drop off.
Do you take pets?
We allow one dog per rental. There is a £30 charge for bringing your pooch to cover extra cleaning. We do occasionally allow two small dogs at our discretion.
Do you reccomend hiring a Portable Loo
A portaloo is a good toilet solution if you are wild camping or not wanting to use public toilets on camp sites.
Portaloos come with a pop up privacy tent and has a
Flushing water system with 21L waste holding tank and is comfortable and hygienic
It comes with a carry case and is stored under the back seat of the van.
It comes with toilet care products and toilet paper.

What do you do with the waste in your portaloo?
If you are on a campsite, there should be an area specifically designed for you to dispose of your toilet waste. If you are wild camping then we suggest you find a public toilet and dispose of it that way.
Where can we go in the UK?
Where you heart desires! We ask that the vans are rested at regular intervals. For all round trips over 1000 miles we ask that your hire our vans for a minimum of 7 days.
What works on the leisure battery?
The leisure battery is charged up when you’re on the move and will last for about 7 hours and will charge with the Solar panel when off grid.
The battery works the USB sockets, fridge, electric tap, ignition on the hob and interior lights. This means the vehicles main battery is never used. We recommend that you plug into a campsite’s electrical hook-up to keep it charged overnight. The electric sockets only work off the mains hook up.
What should we bring?
Sense of humour and sense of adventure is a must!
Unless hiring your bedding from us all bedding and linen including pillows will need to be supplied by you.
Please note if hiring from Bessy you will need a King Size sheet if sleeping on downstairs fixed bed.
All other vans are a double size.
What do we need to clean before we return the vehicle?
Please make sure the fridge contents are removed, the sink is wiped down, all rubbish disposed of and the floor is wiped down. It is the responsibility of our customers to ensure all hired optional extras are returned in the same condition.
We charge £30 for pooches for extra cleaning however if the vans need additional cleaning i.e mucky seats that need washing then there will be an extra charge of £30.
How many keys are we given?
We will hand over the van key on collection. As per our terms and conditions, there will be a charge for the loss or damage to the van key.
Is it Manual or Automatic?

Is it a short or a long wheel base?
Dolly & Dixie are Long Wheel Base (LWB) great for longer journeys as there is more space and storage so ideal for families.
Roxy, Bessy & Sango are a short Wheel Base (SWB) which is perfect for couples and Singles and easy to drive and park.
Scout is a Ford Transit - Swift Trekker X
Has it passed its safety check?
Our vans are fully serviced and have a GAS SAFE safety certificate and have had a habitation health check. A fire extinguisher and Carbon Monoxide detector are fitted on board.
How will we know how to work everything?
Prior to your arrival you will be sent a collection of Video Demos to show how you set up the van and how it all works.
Ok so we won't get an Oscar for our short films but feedback suggests that they are a good tool to refer to. We will do a quick run through how the van works when you collect your vehicle. All Paperwork will need to be submitted and checked on line prior to your arrival.
Does it have front and rear parking sensors?
All vans have parking sensors.
Bessy, Dixie & Dolly have reverse parking cameras.
What is the free gift?

Do we need Holiday Insurance?
Yes. We recommend as with all holidays you purchase Travel Insurance.
We also recommend purchasing Waiver Insurance which will enable you to claim back any of the £500 excess if used for any damage.
Our vans come with fully comprehensive Insurance.
Can we take the campers off road?
In short NO. The camper must not be driven on roads which are not suitable for vehicles. Signs must never be ignored. We reserve the right to contact you and ask you to move to a more suitable terrain. When possible please book campsites which have paved/gravel pitches as opposed to parking up on grass. It is a strong possibility that the van could get stuck especially when it has been raining. Our breakdown cover does not include any incidences off road therefore it is the responsibility for our customers to resolve the problem.
Can Lakes Escape Campers terminate the agreement?
Yes if our customers are in breach of any term of this agreement
They have obtained the vehicle through fraud or misrepresentation
The vehicle appears to be abandoned
The vehicle is not returned on the agreed date
Lakes Escape Campers considers, on reasonable grounds, that the safety of passengers or the condition of the vehicle is endangered
How long are the vans?

The above measurements will help when booking a pitch on sites.
How long are the cables for electric hook up?
25 metres.
Sometimes you may be asked this by a Campsite so they can make sure the cable will reach the van from the electric hook up points.

Which van is most suitable for larger families?
Dolly & Dixie our LWB vans have more luggage space.
Roxy & Sango has enough storage space for light packers
Bessy has limited storage space for big cases but grand with rucksacks.
Scout is the biggest of all vans and is a great touring van
Can we charge our phones?
Yes!
Scout Dolly Dixie Bessy & Sango come with USB Points.
Roxy comes with a 12v Adaptor plug
Can you put the heating on over night?
Only if you are on electric hookup and you have half a tank of diesel.
